Firefighters from Station 36 in Carson paid a visit to the Carson Library on Thursday, July 30, for a fire safety presentation during “Lunch at the Library,” a free lunch program for children under the age of 18.
“The kids were very excited,” said Children’s Librarian Julie Chan.
The presentation by Fire Captain Kevin Lalor, Fire Fighter Specialist Adam Lutski, Fire Fighter Edgar Robledo and Fire Fighter Steve Kuo covered a variety of topics. The children and parents were invited to ask questions, which included “How big is the station?” and “How much water do you use to put out a fire?” When asked who wanted to be a firefighter when they grew up, more than half the audience members raised their hands.
The firefighters also brought the kids and their parents outside to take a look at Engine 236, and at the end of the hour, the firefighters received a call. The children watched as the firefighters donned their gear, climbed in the engine, and drove off, sirens wailing.
Lunches were provided by the USDA Summer Food Service Program. The Lunch at the Library program is a partnership between the County Public Library and the County Department of Parks & Recreation, with support from the California Summer Meal Coalition and the California Library Association.
