Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel are always busy in the community. Here is a snapshot of what Department members are doing across the county.
First District Supervisor Hilda Solis Visits Fire Station 118
On Friday, December 9, 2016, Supervisor Hilda Solis of the First District paid a visit to Fire Station 118 in the City of Industry. She met with Fire Chief Daryl Osby, Chief Deputy David Richardson, Jr., Chief of Staff Rick Velasquez and the staffs of the East Regional Operations Bureau and FS 118.
During her visit, she was given a brief tour of the station and updated on the current Spark of Love toy drive campaign.

For over a decade, Hacienda Heights resident Sylvia West has been a familiar face and friend to Fire Station 118 in the City of Industry.
During the holidays, West actively supports the Spark of Love toy drive campaign by donating bicycles that she purchases for children in the community. Every year, these bicycles have brought joy and smiles to many children in 118’s service area.
On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, firefighters decided to return the gratitude by inviting West for dinner and presenting her with a Department scroll and flowers. The scroll, presented on behalf of Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby, read: “The Los Angeles County Fire Department proudly acknowledges your generosity and dedication to helping others. Your commitment to the community has not gone unnoticed and will always be remembered by those you have touched. We are grateful for your many years of support which helps us to continue our mission and assist those in the communities we serve.”
The unexpected gesture brought tears of joy, and concluded with a memorable evening around the dinner table with 118’s C shift crew.
Pomona Chamber Honors Two LACoFD Personnel

The Pomona Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Holiday Heroes Luncheon on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, in the Avalon Room at the Pomona Fairplex. The yearly event is a public safety tribute to Pomona’s finest. Over 200 guests attended the holiday luncheon, including members from the business community, civic leaders and local elected officials.
The Division VIII office is proud to participate and acknowledge Battalion 15 personnel who serve the city of Pomona.

This year’s honorees are Captain Byron Prewett of East Region Pomona Fire Prevention and Fire Fighter Ruben Sanchez from Fire Station 185. Captain Prewett has worked for the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) for 33 years, and has served the city of Pomona for eight years. Currently a member of Light Force 185, Fire Fighter Sanchez began working for LACoFD in 2008, and has served the city of Pomona for five years.
LACoFD Engine 6 Participates in Lomita Holiday Tree Lighting

The city of Lomita held its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 2, 2016. Engine 6 participated in this year’s event.
Fire Captain Robert Weaver describes the city of Lomita as a very close-knit community. “I often joke that it is like Mayberry from The Andy Griffith Show, especially (since) it has many old homes and buildings and a nice main street district,” he said.
Captain Weaver enjoys working in Lomita because of its small-town feel. “Station 6, being one of the older stations, has a history of firefighters working and staying at the station for many years. In fact, it is not uncommon for them to spend 15-20 years of their careers assigned here,” he explained. “It’s just a nice place to work with great people.”
