The Hermosa Beach City Council honored Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) firefighters for their effective response to a call involving a stroke patient in need of interventional care at a First Responder Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, February 22, 2018. LACoFD Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Whittle, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Hale, and Nurse Educator Nancy Alvarez were in attendance, along with officials from the City of Hermosa Beach.
Fire Captain Robert Underwood, Fire Fighter Specialist Aaron Marks, Fire Fighters David Baumann, Carlos Lopez, and Jose Zaldivar were recognized for identifying severe stroke symptoms in their patient and for their wisdom in transporting him to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, a special stroke care facility. The patient had a clot removed by a neuro-interventionist and is doing great.
