The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) joined the Los Angeles, Vernon and Compton Fire Departments along with the Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway and Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority to conduct an educational emergency drill in the Alameda Corridor on Sunday morning, March 11.

The training helps to prepare first responders by highlighting the emergency features of the Alameda Corridor Trench, a 10-mile section of railway for freight trains passing through the Alameda Corridor that is 33-feet deep and 50-feet wide. Each agency had personnel suit-up for realistic simulations that included sighting fire from a port container, a leaking tank car and an individual injured on the track.
