At 0825am this morning March 3, 2015 LA County Lifeguards Rescue Boat Baywatch Cabrillo was alerted by the United States Coast Guard Sector LA to unknown debris that had washed upon the outside of the Federal Breakwater in Long Beach. There was a joint response of vessels from the LA County Sheriffs Department, LA City Lifeguards and the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Baywatch Cabrillo put one SCUBA diver in the water to conduct the initial search for any persons on board. The debris was confirmed by our diver to be that of an estimated 50ft power vessel. The search also confirmed that there were NO PERSONS ON BOARD and NO PERSON(S) injured.
The LA County Sheriffs Department is currently investigating the cause and origin of the vessel.
