On Thursday, November 3, 2022, a celebration gala was held for retired Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby at the MAYNE Events Center and Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellflower.
Family, friends, and LACoFD personnel were joined by County and city officials to recognize the legacy and well-deserved retirement of Chief Osby. The event was graciously co-hosted by the Los Angeles County Fire Department Foundation (LACFF) and the California Contract Cities Association as well as generously supported by several sponsors.
Los Angeles County Second District Supervisor and Chair Holly J. Mitchell presented Chief Osby with his retirement badge to commemorate his 38 years of fire service to the County.
For the past 11 years as the first African American Fire Chief, Chief Osby has made a lasting impact on the Department. His unwavering commitment to serving the residents of Los Angeles County made him a true trailblazer for those who continue follow in his path.
“Chief Osby is a one-of-a-kind leader,” said Interim Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone. “Balancing everything that comes your way – from outstanding achievements and small victories to the deepest of tragedies and the hardest of setbacks, Chief Osby not only persevered but embraced and overcame every challenge.”
Even though Chief Osby is retired, he continues to serve as the LACFF Chair and raises funds for youth and community education.
