The Gardena Masons honored Fire Captain Jim Keehn of Fire Station 158 with their Firefighter of the Year award during their annual Fire and Police Recognition Dinner on Sept. 25.

Keehn, a 27-year veteran of the fire service and 13-year member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, has spent nine years serving the cities of Hawthorne and Gardena in the South Bay.

A UCLA graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics and math, Keehn is a rescue youth coordinator and mentor, a Fire Explorer advisor, “Fill the Boot” coordinator, battalion training officer and the director of the Fireman’s Relief Association.

When he’s not working, Keehn enjoys traveling and watching his children’s high school sporting events. He is an avid fan of UCLA athletics.
