A pre-summer pancake breakfast has become a beloved community tradition at the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Fire Station 58 in Ladera Heights. On the morning of Saturday, June 10, over 300 community members came out to enjoy the fourth annual Fire Station 58 Pancake Breakfast.
Fire Fighter Kelvin Patterson took the lead in planning and organizing the event with the support of Community Services Liaison Maria Grycan. He felt compelled to assume the mantle and make sure it wasn’t forgotten, as his former colleague and pancake breakfast champion Fire Captain Travon Espy had recently transferred to Urban Search and Rescue.
58’s crew served their guests a smorgasbord of breakfast choices and entertained them with a helicopter flyover, a visit from Firetruck 110 and a
vehicle extrication demonstration by firefighters.
Fire Chief Daryl Osby, Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Whittle and Chief Deputy David Richardson were in attendance for the breakfast which included a recognition ceremony for resident Carla Langley, a mother who saved the lives of her 8-year-old twins when their upstairs apartment caught fire in the middle of the night of May 30, 2017.
