“I’ve dedicated my life to this job,” Schifando told Behind the Badge OC after his ceremony on Feb. 17. “I love going to work every single day, and I love taking care of people. It’s a rewarding job.”

Schifando, who joined the Department in 1987, has served the public from Fire Station 164 in Huntington Park, Fire Station 71 in Malibu, the Headquarters Training Facility, Fire Station 4 in Rosemead and Fire Station 193 in La Habra.

Alves received his recognition at a presentation on Feb. 21.

Born in Bellflower, Alves began working as a firefighter in Ventura County in 1986, and he transferred to LACoFD in 1990. He’s a member of Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 2, and has deployed to New Orleans, Louisiana; Christchurch, New Zealand; and Japan as a member of this team.

Alves also served as a Public Safety Commissioner in the City of Artesia in the mid-1990s.
