Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby received the Independent Cities Association (ICA) Public Safety Award and served as the keynote speaker at its 59th Annual Winter Seminar Keynote Address and Award luncheon. The seminar took place at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort over the weekend of February 1, 2019.

The Board of Directors selected Chief Osby as this year’s recipient of the ICA Public Safety Award because of his leadership expertise during the Woolsey Fire. The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) worked endlessly to ensure the residents of Los Angeles and Ventura County were safe. The fire began on November 8, 2018, and was fully contained on November 21.

“The Keynote Address and Award Luncheon was to honor the heroism and collaborative execution of the LACoFD in response to the Woolsey Fire,” said Tai Sunnanon, Executive Director of ICA. “Chief Osby gave an incredible testimony of the Department’s quick handling of the Woolsey Fire in order to protect the public.”

The ICA is a non-profit organization of nearly 40 cities in LA County. The organization’s annual Winter Seminar serves to provide audience members with action responses for public safety.

Over 100 people attended the luncheon, including mayors, city council members and managers, business leaders and public safety officials.
