The Los Angeles County Fire Department is saddened to announce the passing of Fire Fighter Gino “Rick” Zeni of Fire Station 125 in Battalion 5. He passed away unexpectedly Oct. 16 at the age of 49.

“The Board of Supervisors, together with President Dave Gillotte of Local 1014 and I pass along our deepest condolences and sympathies to the entire Zeni family,” Fire Chief Daryl Osby said in a statement.

Zeni, a dedicated and respected member of the Department, was a lifelong public servant who served as a lifeguard with Ventura County, a volunteer firefighter with the Santa Paula Fire Department and a firefighter with the Ventura County Federal Fire Department. He began his career with Los Angeles County in 2003.

“He was larger than life and loved life,” said Fire Fighter Tommy Davis, who worked at Fire Station 125-A with Zeni. “He loved his family, and he loved all of the guys and gals in the fire service that he worked with.

“We’re in unbelievable shock that he’s gone.”

A flag ceremony in Zeni’s honor was held Thursday, Oct. 22, at Fire Station 125 in Calabasas, and a memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 26.

A fund has been established to aid FF Zeni’s family. Donations may be sent to:
