The current drought and water conservation have been constant concerns for many communities, and it was apparent to Forestry Division personnel who participated in the City of Walnut Family Festival on Oct. 10.
Foresters passed out drought-tolerant, California native plants to festival-goers. There was much interest about plant species—specifically ones that are aesthetically pleasing and don’t use much water—that are safe to plant around homes in fire-prone areas.
Displays included a map of Fire Hazard Severity Zones within Los Angeles County, as well as information on fire-wise landscaping and erosion control.
