Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Forestry Division is wishing Forestry Technician Michael Dominguez a safe deployment and a speedy return as he has been activated for a year-long military assignment and will begin an extended hiatus from the Department in June 2017. He has worked with the Forestry Division for two years, and served in the Army for a total of 17 years of active and reserve duty.

On his last day at the Forestry Division before his deployment, Dominguez was working to wrap up the details common to anyone leaving their post for an extended time. He commented that all ranks, everyone from his chiefs to his co-workers, have been very supportive and appreciative of his service in the Army. Their support has been key as he has had to take leave for training several times since the beginning of January 2017.

Previously deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, this tour is unique for Dominguez as he is managing both a career with the Department and a family; he and his wife are expecting a baby in August. Dominguez is set to depart in early July, first to Ft. Bragg in North Carolina, then on to Saudi Arabia where he’ll receive his orders.

The County of Los Angeles had a total of 125 activated military personnel in the first quarter of 2017, which included 30 from LACoFD.
